Coronary Interventions (Angioplasty, Stents, Thrombectomy, Atherectomy)

What is Coronary Interventions?

When coronary arteries narrow or block, we use advanced techniques to restore blood flow and prevent complications.

For patients with angina, coronary intervention is an alternative to bypass surgery. In acute heart attacks, doctors quickly open the blocked artery to prevent further damage and restore heart function.

Doctors insert a fine wire, followed by a balloon and stent to open the artery. In some cases, they may remove clots or use clot-dissolving drugs directly in the artery.

These interventions minimize damage, improve heart function, and reduce recovery time. Our specialists excel in handling complex, high-risk procedures.

Types
  • Angioplasty (PCI): Angioplasty restores blood flow by widening narrowed or blocked arteries using a guidewire and a balloon.
  • Stent Placement: After angioplasty, doctors place a stent to keep the artery open. Drug-eluting stents release medication to prevent restenosis.
  • Thrombectomy: Thrombectomy removes blood clots blocking arteries during heart attacks, restoring blood flow and minimizing damage.
  • Atherectomy: Atherectomy removes atherosclerotic plaque, especially hard or calcified plaque, using techniques like rotational or laser atherectomy.
Benefits
  • Angioplasty (PCI): Angioplasty restores blood flow by widening blocked arteries using a guidewire and balloon.
  • Stent Placement: After angioplasty, doctors place a stent to keep the artery open. Drug-eluting stents help prevent restenosis.
  • Thrombectomy: Thrombectomy removes blood clots during heart attacks, restoring blood flow and reducing heart damage.
  • Atherectomy: Atherectomy removes plaque from arteries, especially hard or calcified plaque, using rotational or laser techniques.
The Procedure Process:
  • Guided Insertion: The procedure begins with inserting a catheter through a blood vessel, usually in the groin or wrist. The catheter is carefully threaded to the blockage in the coronary artery.
  • Balloon Inflation and Stent Deployment: After reaching the narrowed artery, doctors inflate a balloon to widen it. A stent is then deployed to keep the artery open and maintain blood flow.
  • Thrombectomy or Atherectomy: If a blood clot or plaque is causing the blockage, additional procedures, such as thrombectomy or atherectomy, are performed to remove the obstruction and restore circulation.
