Leqvio (Inclisiran) Cholesterol-Lowering Injections

What is Leqvio?
Leqvio (inclisiran) is a prescription medicine that lowers LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. It’s used together with diet and other cholesterol medicines in adults whose LDL is still above goal, including people with heart disease or inherited high cholesterol, and people who can’t take statins.
In clinical studies it lowered LDL cholesterol in most patients. Your results may differ, so we’ll recheck your cholesterol to see how you’re responding.
How it works
Leqvio is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) medicine. It tells the liver to make less of a protein called PCSK9, so the liver can clear more LDL from the blood.
How it's given
A nurse gives Leqvio as a shot under the skin here in our office. You get the first two doses 3 months apart, then one dose every 6 months
Side Effects
Common side effects include reactions where the shot was given (pain, redness or rash), joint pain, urinary tract infection, diarrhea, bronchitis, pain in the arms or legs, and shortness of breath. Ask your doctor about all possible side effects.
